With any type of surgery there can be things that happen after the surgery. Look at the picture below and tell me if you can see anything that happened to this patient who had an bunionectomy?
If you look carefully at the top of the bone there is a break near the screw head. This is called a stress riser and can happen with bunion surgery.
Solution: Keep off the foot and put the foot in a cast for 6-8 weeks until the area heels. Sometimes this can be caused by torquing of the screw against the surface or having someone start walking in a CAM boot too soon.
