Overlapping toe

Do you have a toe that is overlapping.  This can be the 2nd toe over lapping the 3rd or as I saw today the 3rd digit overlapping the 4th toe.  This problem typically starts with curvature of a toe or a hammertoe that then moves over the adjacent toe.  Pain is usually on the bottom of the foot and sometimes the toe that is cocked up can rub on the shoe or be painful.  Here is a picture of this type of a toe.

So how to do you treat this type of condition.  If it is not painful you don't have to do anything.  But if the toe is rubbing and painful you can try a pad to help pull down the toe in the correct position.  Here is an example of one of those.

This can work for some people.  Other times injections are needed and still other times a surgery is needed.  There is a new surgery we are doing now it is called CPR.  It is not to bring someone back to life but helps move the toe back to the proper position and reduce the pain due to the torn or strained ligament.  Here is a  nice video that you can watch to learn more about the procedure.
