Many patients come in to the office and they say that they have bumped their little toenail. This is most common at nighttime when you hit the bed or as you are walking through a doorway and you jam it on the side of the door. If the nail is loosened as you can see in this picture and it has a blister on the top of it, you will probably have to have your toenail removed. You can see the before and after picture. This will need to be numbed up with an anesthetic and once the area is numb it is very easy to pull off the toenail. A few other things that you need to be careful of is if you have a broken toe or a fracture of the toe, you need to tape the toe to the one next to it and reduce the movement of the foot. This can be done with either a Cam boot or a surgical shoe. As well you need to be careful if you have any infection and if you do you should speak to your doctor about it.
