When do I need an x-ray?

There are many patients that don't know if they should get an x-ray for their foot problem.  Especially toe breaks because they don't think anything can be done for them.  However, sometimes if the break is dislocated or in a number of pieces an x-ray can be helpful.

Here is a good article I found in the journal of family practice on x-rays and foot pain.  It covers some of the more commonly misdiagnosed foot problems that I see in the practice like a AVN of the metatarsal, plantar fasciitis, stress fracture and tarsal coalitions.
